I was a Research Fellow at the IAS-STS in early 2011, funded primarily by the Ernst Mach Grant Worldwide through the Austrian Agency for International Cooperation in Education and Research (OeAD-GmbH), Centre for International Cooperation & Mobility (ICM), financed by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Science and Research (BMWF). My objective was to investigate the European context of Information Communication Technology (ICT) usage, particularly online games.

My stay was for three months, but it could have been for much longer.  The IAS-STS provided a lovely space with many amenities and opportunities for meeting with other Fellows who are doing very interesting work in STS.  Though my time with the Institute was short, I met people who became lasting friends who are now part of a global network of engaged scholarship.
I would highly recommend a Research Fellowship of this nature to those who wish to brainstorm their budding ideas, encounter an interdisciplinary environment where incubation space is needed, and learn lots of interesting things about Austrian and European culture in general.

The Institute, situated in Graz, is a beautiful area in southern Austria with breathtaking sights and an amazing history.  I enjoyed the warm hospitality, lovely food, and transportation infrastructure.  I definitely hope to return someday soon!
