From January to March 2011, I was a research fellow at the IAS-STS, Graz. The institute is a really special environment. The office space I had was spacious, light and a great place for thinking positive thoughts and working well.
I was also awarded the Manfred-Heindler grant, which made it possible for me to carry out my research in Graz. This generous allowance opened up the possibility to fully get to grips with life in Austria and really make the most of my experience there. The focus on interdisciplinary really helped clarify my thinking on various ideas. Just as being exposed to others’ ideas also was a fecund source of inspiration.
Above all, the most positive aspect of my stay in Graz was the everyday, friendly nature of everyone at the institute. From meeting regularly for lunch, to just being available for a cup of coffee, a chat and to discuss potential research avenues. My experiences will certainly stay with me, as I also know will the different friendships and connections I made, in both Graz and those from the rest of the world!
